The Across The Grain EP is Deco’s first solo release of 2013 and features four tracks of bass-focused music that incorporate a variety of styles and influences. The title track is a deep, rolling excercise in blending heavy amounts of sub-bass with a techno sound palette. “True Renegades” pays homage to the outsiders who stand their artistic ground in the face of commercial temptations with more techno influences and programming reminiscent of the early autonomic sound of Instra:Mental and D-Bridge.

“Consciousness Dub” changes things up with a strictly dub reggae vibe drowning in delay and reverb. Rich horns and sparse vocals take over the spotlight as the song progresses through a smoke-hazed breakdown and onward towards the outro. Finally, “Polymorphism” steps the energy up in a considerable way with 23rd-century mid-range synths and frenetic percussion spiked with classic drum break vocal intonations.

The Across The Grain EP is a solid representation of the past influences and current styles that Deco draws from. If you like what you hear, keep your ears open for more music from Deco in 2013.
